About the Artist
Tom Thomson (1877-1917) is one of the most influential and enduringly popular Canadian artists of the early 20th century. While not formerly part of the Group of Seven, most Canadians recognize Thomson's oeuvre and correctly attribute his influence and association with this acclaimed group of artists. The original oil on plywood can be found at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound, ON.
Soft Maple in Autumn features the beautiful orange, yellow and red hues associated with the fall colours of Algonquin Park and Canoe Lake, where Thomson mysteriously disappeared. Jigsaw puzzlers will appreciate the Algonquin Park themed whimsies including the elusive hero known as Mr. Canoehead.
