Notice for US Customers Regarding Tariffs
Why the Puzzle Pause?
To our US Puzzle friends,
On August 29, changes to U.S. trade rules — including the removal of the de minimis threshold and the addition of a 35% tariff on Canadian goods — have created some new complications for our American puzzlers. A few customers have reported being charged tariffs or brokerage fees on their orders.
Here’s what’s happening:
- Every StumpCraft puzzle is proudly made in Canada and qualifies under the CUSMA/USMCA free trade agreement.
- In theory, this should mean our puzzles enter the U.S. tariff-free.
- In practice, new U.S. tariffs of 35% have been applied to some shipments, often alongside a brokerage fee charged by the carrier. For UPS, these fees are typically in the $25–$35 range and up.
- These charges come directly from U.S. Customs and the shipping carrier (UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc.) and are entirely outside our control.
Temporary pause on U.S. shipments
To avoid saddling customers with surprise costs, we’re putting U.S. orders on hold while we get clearer direction from carriers and customs. This pause is temporary, and we’ll share updates as soon as we know more.
What this means for you:
- The only amount we ever charge is what you see at checkout.
- If U.S. Customs applies tariffs, taxes, or brokerage fees once shipping resumes, those will be your responsibility as the importer.
- Unfortunately, we can’t predict when or how these charges will be applied — the rules are shifting quickly and not always enforced the same way.
- Canadian orders are not affected by these changes.
- Your options: If you have a pending U.S. order, you may cancel at any time for a full refund, or hold tight while we work toward a clearer solution.
We know this situation is far from ideal, and we share in your frustration.
StumpCraft has always been about bringing joy, creativity, and connection through puzzles — not red tape and uncertainty. While we can’t control customs rules, we can promise to keep you informed, advocate for smoother shipping solutions, and do our best to minimize disruptions.
Your support means the world to us. We’re grateful for your patience, your puzzling spirit, and your willingness to stick with us while we navigate this bump in the road together.
